FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions
HOW MUCH IS IT TO HAVE YOU PERFORM AT MY EVENT?
The average priced Elvis performance in the Southern
California area (Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside San Bernardino, Ventura, San
Diego Counties) ranges anywhere from $250.00 for a simple meet and greet
upwards toward $700.00 for a full show and is negotiable.
These rates will vary depending on many different factors
such as the day of week, travel range, etc. Each event is different…You
can have me perform solo, or with a backing band
I can perform only one song or as many as 25 songs, for up
to one hour or even just a simple mix and mingle, meet and greet with your
guests.
I can perform with
a full or portable sound system (cost varies depending on the sound system. Of
course the more extensive the sound system, the more the cost.)
If you have a Disc Jockey at your event, I can work with
him, I simply give him my CD or an iPod with backing tracks on it and utilize
their microphone (preferably wireless) and it makes it easier and does affect
the cost.
If you'd like a full band, there is an additional charge
and usually a separate contract with the particular band. There are several
bands available dedicated to providing exclusive backing for Elvis Tribute
artists.
Out of town rates are of course higher and take into
consideration lodging and travel expense.
WOULD YOU PERFORM HALF
THE TIME FOR HALF THE COST?
A common misconception some potential clients make is:
If the cost for a 1 hour performance is for example
$500.00, shouldn’t a ½ hour performance be half the cost (i.e. $250.00)?
While the rate of a ½ hour performance versus a 1 hour
performance may be slightly lower in cost, the performance itself is actually a
smaller portion of the work that goes into making a successful performance for
your event.
*Most of the work is in the
pre-event preparation, loading equipment into the truck, travel, set-up
equipment, putting on makeup, jewelry, jumpsuit, taking off makeup, jewelry,
jumpsuit, breaking down the equipment, loading it back into the truck, travel
home, unloading equipment, etc.
The performance itself, while
being very important, is the fun little part that takes place in the middle of
all this activity.
The whole process takes about 3-5
hours per event, on average.
DO YOU ARRIVE DRESSED AS ELVIS IN COSTUME?
Although there are some exceptions (i.e. travel directly
from one event to another with time constraints) the answer is generally, No. However, I do normally arrive with hair and makeup already done.
I will normally arrive
approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour prior to the performance dressed in "normal"
attire, to survey the performance area and set up. I then use a separate area
provided by client to get into costume and makeup and change into
"Elvis."
As I do try not to give away the "surprise" for events that are a "surprise" for a special guest (i.e. surprise birthday party and I am one of the surprises) there is always the potential for giving away the surprise since my sideburns and hair are normally my own. I have been fortunate however, with the help of either one of my staff or a person the client has designated to be the point person at the event to help carry off the "surprise" without any hitches. To date, I am glad to say I have never given away a "surprise"
DO YOU SING IN YOUR OWN VOICE OR DO YOU LIP SYNC?
I perform using my
own "live" vocals (not lip-sync) to pre-recorded backing track music or a
live band.
WHAT ERA OF ELVIS DO YOU DO?
I'm ideally suited for the Jumpsuit Era Elvis (Late 1969
through the 1970's), but can cover all his hits from the late 1950’s era
through the 1960’s movie era (Blue Hawaii in an Aloha Shirt) through to the ’68
Comeback-Black Leather era.
The majority of my clients request the Jumpsuit Era Elvis.
ARE YOUR ELVIS TRIBUTE SHOW’S SUITABLE FOR CHILDREN?
Yes, I had many requests and opportunities to perform at children’s parties and many public events. My performances are appropriate for all ages.
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN PERFORMING
AS AN ELVIS TRIBUTE ARTIST?
Although I didn't start performing his Elvis Tribute shows
until 1998, my' venture into performing as "The King" actually began
in 1987 at age 19 with a trip to Universal Studios Hollywood and a Novelty
Recording Studio there in the park. It was then I recorded Elvis Presley's
classic "Teddy Bear" and discovered my ability to sound like
"The King".
Always pursuing Music as a hobby since age 10 and performing with various local
rock bands, choirs, etc., I was approached to add his rendition of Elvis to one
of the acts. Soon word of mouth got out, and I soon found myself in studded
jumpsuits and side-burns performing Elvis Tribute Shows at various functions,
including weddings, parties, private and corporate events, etc. all over
Southern California and Las Vegas, NV.
